Adams Lake is a large lake that is located 80 km northeast of Kamloops.   There are a number of access points along the lake,  of which  Bush Creek is the closest.   The lake is 63 km long and the widest point is 3 km across.    It is a colder, deep lake (second deepest in BC).

Driving Directions:

  • The quickest route from Kamloops to Bush Creek is by the Trans Canada Highway.    Turn at the bridge across Little River (South Thompson) onto the Squilax – Anglemont Road.   Before the Adams River Bridge, turn left onto Holding Road (for 15 km).
  • At the south end of the lake, the road becomes gravel.    Watch for the Adams Lake Park (Bush Creek), sign and turn down to the campground.

Boat Launch

  • A good boat launch is located just as you enter the campground area.
  • There is lots of parking.

Shoreline

  • This is a large lake and the boat launch is at the southern part so most paddling will be up or down the shoreline.
  • A loop route can be paddled if the winds are not strong.    Much of the lake has steep hills, but there are a number of pocket beaches in each direction.

Pros

  • This is a beautiful lake to visit.    There are few homes along the lakeshore, except in small pockets.
  • We can use marine campsites to paddle and camp on the lake.
  • There are more boat launch areas for the middle and north end of the lake.

Cons

  • Bush Creek will be very busy at prime times.
  • the lake can also be busy on weekends during the warmer months.
  • It is a big lake, so winds can be a challenges.    It is best to consult forecasts before crossing the lake.
