Campbell Lake is located in the Campbell Range, in the hills southeast of Barnhartvale.

Directions/Launch:

  • Although Campbell Lake is located right next to the Campbell Range Road there is no public access to the lake on that side.
  • Access is via the Scuitto Lake Road.
  • Follow Barnhartvale Road to the Robbins Range Road turnoff.    Go up the Robbins Range Road and continue straight ahead to the Campbell Range Road.   Turn right onto the Scuitto Lake Forest Service Road and drive for 12 km on a gravel 2WD road.    Continue past Scuitto Lake to Campbell Lake following signs for the Campbell Lake Recreation Site.
  • There is a designated boat launch on Campbell Lake with lots of parking

The Lake:

  • Campbell Lake is a long narrow lake with forested areas on the west side and open rangeland on the east end.
  • There are several large shallow bays on the lake frequented by waterfowl.
  • This is a popular fishing lake, but there is lots of room for paddlers too.
  • A paddle around the lake is about 7 km.

Pros:

  • There are many birds on the lake in each season.    Earlier in the year the lake is fuller and we can paddle the shallow bays.
  • Pelicans visit the lake in late summer each year.
  • Because it is a long drive, the lake is rarely overly busy.

Cons:

  • The shallow bays fill with aquatic plants in summer and become too shallow with evaporation and draw down for irrigation.
  • The lake lies on top of the Campbell Range and it can sometimes get quite windy.
  • It is a long bumpy road to the lake.
