Clearwater Lake is a large lake located at the end of the Wells Gray Corridor Road

Location and Directions:

  • Drive north to Clearwater, then turn onto the Wells Gray Road
  • Continue through the park to the end of the road.
  • There is a good boat launch at parking area there.
  • Park in the upper lot after unloading.
  • The lake is within Wells Gray Provincial Park

Shoreline:

  • Most paddlers paddle north, but it is possible to paddle south to the campground area, but not as far as the falls.
  • The lake gradually widens and continues for 22 km.
  • There are 8 marine campsites on the lake
  • The river at the north end drains from Azure Lake and Hobson Lake.    It is possible to paddle partway up the river, then portage to azure Lake.

Pros

  •  a beautiful lake with clear water and fine views
  • nice marine campsites for paddle-camping

Cons

  • 190 km drive one way to the lake
  • if it is windy, it can be difficult and unsafe
  • summer storms may arise in the area
