Community Lake is a smaller lake in a remote spot, on top of Community Mountain.
Directions, Launch, and Parking
- Drive on the Heffley Creek to Sun Peaks Road, then turn left (north) onto the Knouff Lake Road.
- Watch for the sign for a turnoff onto Community Lake Forest Service Road which goes to the right (east) and climbs the hill.
- Follow the FSR, watching for signs and ignoring other branch roads. The final section is a bit confusing so we recommend using a mapping app.
- There is a good hand launch and lots of parking at the Rec Site.
Paddling the Lake
- A higher elevation lake suitable for summer of early fall paddling.
- There are a number of shallow bays, marshes, and islands.
- A paddle around the lake is about 2.5 km.
Pros:
- A pretty, quiet lake
Cons
- It is best to wait for the roads to dry before venturing up the mountain.
- Signage is a bit lacking for the route to the Rec Site.
