Edith Lake is a popular fishing spot close to town. Paddlers can use the lake too, going into the back bays where fishermen rarely visit. There is a larger boat launch and two smaller ones and lots of parking. this is a scenic spot all year round with grasslands hills rising in each direction.
Directions/Launch:
- From Kamloops, drive south on Highway 5A. At Knutsford, turn right onto the Long Lake Road. At about 3.5 km, turn right onto the Edith Lake Road. This is a good gravel road
- At 4.3 km arrive at the Edith Lake Recreation Site. The first boat launch is the largest with lots of parking.
- There are two more boat launches farther along the lake.
The Lake:
- Since this is a busy fishing lake it is a good idea to paddle the shoreline in either direction.
- I always paddle the back bays too. A circuit of the whole lake takes less than an hour.
Pros:
- Close to town.
- It can be paddled in the wind, using the hill provide a lee area.
- A good lake for a short paddle.
Cons:
- This is a busy lake in prime times.
- It has a later ice-off time and earlier ice on the lake in fall.
