Heffley Lake is a larger lake with many homes along the north shore and limited access for public launching, except on the east end.
Directions:
- Drive north on Highway 5 and turn east onto the Heffley Creek to Louis Creek Road (also known as the Sun Peaks Road).
- Signs indicate roads down to Heffley Lake, but continue to the end of the lake and turn down to the Heffley Lake Recreation Site and the Boat launch.
- There is adequate parking near the boat launch, but it can be busy on weekends and prime times.
The Lake
- When we launch there are a number of small islands and channels to go past to get into the main part of the lake. On the north side of the lake are many homes, many with docks. Much of the south side of the lake is forested and there are a few homes on the southeast corner.
- There is a larger island near the west end of the lake.
- We usually paddle the south shore of the lake and then we loop back to the start.
- Winds can get strong on the open part of the lake so pick a calm day for any larger lake.
Pros
- Heffley is a pleasant lake to paddle at non-prime times
Cons
- It is a popular recreational lake which also includes power boats.
- The main part of the lake can be windy.
