Hyas Lake is a fine paddling lake high in the hills above Pinantan Lake.

Directions/Launch:

  • Drive up the Paul Lake Road and continue to Pinantan Lake.   Continue on the road to Pritchard, then turn north on the Hyas Lake Road.
  • There are a number of junctions so carrying a GPS or using a mapping app may be helpful.    Sings that indicate the route to Hyas Lake Resort can be followed since the same road is shared by the Rec Site and the Resort.
  • The narrow road into the small Rec site can be muddy.
  • There are 4 campsites and a small boat launch.    You may have to park farther back on the road after unloading.

The Lake:

  • Most of the lake is surrounded by forest but there are a few cabins along one bay and the Resort at the end of the lake.
  • The water is clear and deep.

Pros:

  • A quiet lake much of the time, but it may be busy on summer weekends.

Cons:

  • A late season ice-off.
  • Limited access to launch and park (okay on weekdays)
  • The road can be muddy in late spring.
  • Some of the backroads are unsigned.
