Jacko is a favorite lake to paddle, but going at the right time is recommended.

Area/Directions

  • From the Trans Canada Highway traveling west, turn onto Copperhead Drive, then turn right onto the Lac le Jeune Road.    Continue on the road for 9 km as it climbs the hill and goes down to the Inks Lakes.    Go under the overpass and immediately turn left (east).
  • Follow a potholed and rough road for 1.9 km to the Jacko Lake boat launch.

Boat Launch/Parking

  • There is a good boat launch and lots of parking, but this can be a busy stop at prime fishing times.

Lake Activity

  • This is one of the first lakes to be ice-free in the spring and when it can be used it is heavily used by fishermen.
  • In prime times in spring and summer it is a busy place.
  • Weekday mornings are less busy and in summer the lake sees less fishermen.
  • Not many paddlers use the lake.

Lakeshore

  • It is about 4 km around the lake.
  • There are several shallow bays and channels to explore, but they fill with aquatic vegetation in summer.

Pros

  • This is a scenic lake with open hills surrounding the lake.
  • There are lots of waterfowl and birds on the lake in spring.
  • It is close to town.
  • The boat launch and parking are good.

Cons

  • It is busy with fishermen at prime times.
  • The bays and channels get choked with aquatic vegetation in summer and fall.
  • The road in is rough.
