Jacko is a favorite lake to paddle, but going at the right time is recommended.
Area/Directions
- From the Trans Canada Highway traveling west, turn onto Copperhead Drive, then turn right onto the Lac le Jeune Road. Continue on the road for 9 km as it climbs the hill and goes down to the Inks Lakes. Go under the overpass and immediately turn left (east).
- Follow a potholed and rough road for 1.9 km to the Jacko Lake boat launch.
Boat Launch/Parking
- There is a good boat launch and lots of parking, but this can be a busy stop at prime fishing times.
Lake Activity
- This is one of the first lakes to be ice-free in the spring and when it can be used it is heavily used by fishermen.
- In prime times in spring and summer it is a busy place.
- Weekday mornings are less busy and in summer the lake sees less fishermen.
- Not many paddlers use the lake.
Lakeshore
- It is about 4 km around the lake.
- There are several shallow bays and channels to explore, but they fill with aquatic vegetation in summer.
Pros
- This is a scenic lake with open hills surrounding the lake.
- There are lots of waterfowl and birds on the lake in spring.
- It is close to town.
- The boat launch and parking are good.
Cons
- It is busy with fishermen at prime times.
- The bays and channels get choked with aquatic vegetation in summer and fall.
- The road in is rough.
