Directions:

  • Drive north on the Lac du Bois Road for 12 km.
  • Park at the northeast corner parking area.

Launching:

  • Because this is a Nature Conservancy, there is limited access to the lakeshore.
  • Lift the boat over the wooden rail fence, then haul the boat down to the lakeshore.
  • This is an awkward launch, but it keeps away the crowds.

Lakeshore:

  • The lakeshore is marshy and the lake is muddy and murky.
  • there are beaver lodges, muskrat pushups, blackbird and wren nests, ducks, geese, and turtles on the lake.
  • A paddle around the lakeshore is 3.5 km.

Pros:

  • A great spot to observe western painted turtles, pond life, dragonflies, ducklings, muskrats, and insects.
  • No fishing and not much paddling so you are likely to have the lake to yourself.
  • We can paddle around the lakeshore twice to get more paddling time.

Cons:

  • A more difficult launch.
  • Algae multiplies in summer.
