Monte Lake is a good spot to paddle with easy access.
Directions and Launch Information:
- Monte Lake is on Highway 97, 18 km south from the TransCanada Highway
- Right before the lake, turn right onto the Monte Creek Forest Service Riad
- There is good parking and a hand launch from the north end of the lake
- There is also a boat launch area just off Highway 97 on the east side of the lake.
Lake Shoreline
- The highway follows the shoreline on the east side and the railway follows the shoreline on the west side
- There is a small Provincial Park on the lake on the highway side, nar the south end of the lake
- steep hills flank both sides of the lake
- A paddle around the shoreline is about 7 km.
Pros:
- good access
- lots of room for paddling
Cons:
- a noisy lake because of the highway and the railroad
- busy at prime times
