Pat Lake is small, but it has the distinction of being one of the first oce-off lakes.    It is scenic spot, but it is busy/popular with fishermen in spring.

Directions:

  • There are two roads in; both are parts of the old Trans Canada Highway, but are now rougher access roads.
  • Drive Highway 1 past Tobiano and at about 800m turn left onto an unsigned gravel road.     Follow the bumpy road to the lake.
  • The other route is off the Tunkwa Lake Road.   From Savona drive 1.5 km up the Tunkwa Lake Road, then turn east onto the Six Mile Hill Road.    You will arrive at Morgan Lake.   Continue on.   Follow a bumpy road around to Pat Lake.
  • There is a  good launch spot at either end of Pat Lake.

The Lake:

  • A paddle around the lake is only 2.1 km so kayakers may want to do loops.
  • There is a shallow marshy section at the west end of the lake.    In summer this becomes grown in and muddy.
  • There are almost no trees around the lakeshore.   Rocky hills and grassland slopes rise on each side.

Pros:

  • A good spring lake to paddle.
  • Scenic and usually quiet.

Cons:

  • Busy at prime times.
  • No shade in summer.
  • A small lake
