Pillar is a long, narrow lake north of Falkland.

Directions/Access/Launch:

  • Drive Highway 97 southeast to Falkland (75 km).    Turn left onto the Falkland – Chase Road.
  • Drive north for 11 km to Pillar Lake.
  • Turn left to the Pillar Lake Recreation Site
  • There is a good launch for canoes and kayaks and cartop boats.    There is adequate parking near the lake.

The Lake:

  • Pillar Lake is long and narrow, lying in the valley bottom between the highway and surrounding hills.
  • The lake is 2.4 km long.    A paddle around the shoreline is about 5 km.
  • The north and south ends of the lake have marshy areas.
  • The lake is a popular fishing spot (rainbow and kokanee).

Pros:

  • A peaceful and scenic spot at non-prime times.
  • The hike to The Pillar is on the other side of the road.

Cons:

  • There is a resort above the lake and at prime times, it can be a busy place.
  • There are a few fallen-tree-snags in the lake.
