Red Lake is a longer drive on backroads, but it is a very nice lake to paddle.
Area/Directions/Launch:
- It is possible to get to Red Lake by several routes, but the main route is from North Kamloops.
- Follow the Tranquille – Criss Creek Road for about 30 kms, then turn left (south) on the signed Red Lake Road (sometimes called the Copper Creek or Carbine Road).
- Turn onto Red Lake Drive and continue to the public boat launch off Strom Place. Drop off your boat and park above.
- There is also an informal boat launch on the south corner of the lake.
- There is a third boat launch on the north end of the lake, using backroads.
- Alternately, from Highway 1 just west of Savona, take the Sabiston Creek Road and follow it Red Lake.
The Lake:
- Red Lake is a prime fishing lake so it can be busy at prime time, but it is a large lake and there is lots of room for everyone.
- There are some homes and cabins on the eastern shore, but the western shore is all forested.
- Aquatic vegetation multiplies mid summer to fill
Pros
- A scenic and peaceful lake.
- A larger lake with many options.
Cons
- A longer drive on backroads.
- Can be busy at the boat launch during prime times.
