Surrey Lake is a fine spot for a day of summer paddling.
Directions:
- Take the Logan Lake Road (Highway 97D or the Meadow Creek Road) fora bout 7 km.
- Turn left (south) onto the Surrey Lake Forest Service Road.
- Follow the gravel road up the hill (for about 7.5 km) and continue as it passes under the Coquihalla Highway.
- Watch for the sign to the Surrey Lake Resort (Wildlings).
Boat Launch:
- Paddlers can go into the resort and pay a parking/launch fee.
- There is a side road that goes to the right and winds around the west side of the resort. There are two hand launch spots and parking off this road, but it may be a bit rough or muddy in spring.
- The bumpy road continues to Sussex Lake.
Paddling the Lake
- The lakeshore is forested.
- The Resort is on the north shore and there are a handful of private homes on the bay which goes east. The east bay is shallow and marshy.
- There is a dam on the south end of the lake.
- A paddle around the lake is about 5 km.
Pros
- A quiet spot for paddling.
- We can paddle both Surrey and Sussex Lake in the same day.
Cons
- A late ice-off.
- It is best to avoid prime times since the launching areas are limited.
