A smaller lake in Roche Lake Provincial Park

Directions/Launch/Parking:

  • drive south on Highway 5A
  • Turn onto the Roche Lake Road
  • Drive up the Roche Lake Road past the Bleeker Lake Road and before Roche Lake.    A signed road to the right leads to Roche Lake West and Horseshoe Lake.
  • Take the turn to Horseshoe Lake.    Park at the campsite somewhere near the boat launch.

Paddling the Lake:

  • This is a better paddle in spring or early summer.
  • Later in summer, the lake levels drop and the shallow bays become choked with aquatic growth and algae.
  • The two longer marshy arms are great for exploration.
  • A paddle around the whole lake is 2.75 km.    I usually go around twice.

Pros:

  • A quiet spot with areas to explore by kayak.
  • Good access.

Cons:

  • A busy fishing lake (esp. on weekends)
  • Not as good in summer and fall.
