Monte Lake is a good spot to paddle with easy access.

Directions and Launch Information:

  • Monte Lake is on Highway 97, 18 km south from the TransCanada Highway
  • Right before the lake, turn right onto the Monte Creek Forest Service Riad
  • There is good parking and a hand launch from the north end of the lake
  • There is also a boat launch area just off Highway 97 on the east side of the lake.

Lake Shoreline

  • The highway follows the shoreline on the east side and the railway follows the shoreline on the west side
  • There is a small Provincial Park on the lake on the highway side, nar the south end of the lake
  • steep hills flank both sides of the lake
  • A paddle around the shoreline is about 7 km.

Pros:

  • good access
  • lots of room for paddling

Cons:

  • a noisy lake because of the highway and the railroad
  • busy at prime times
